In order to ensure maximum efficiency and quality of services, we have equipped our operation center with a data recovery laboratory. We have a separate Clean space unit with three laminar chambers. Such a unit ensures high air purity, while the laminar chambers prevent dust particles with a diameter greater than 0.3µ from coming into contact with the hard disk plate. In this laboratory, we use the most modern data recovery software, as well as auxiliary tools developed by ourselves under the HddSurgery brand.

If the diagnosis establishes that there is a problem with the mechanics or electronics, a temporary repair of the hard disk is made in order to enable access to the data. After we establish that there is no longer a mechanical or electronic obstacle, the process of data recovery begins.

Restoring data from a faulty hard drive to a completely working hard drive is done by cloning the contents, sector by sector. Types of hard drive failures

  • Logical failures
    – loss of partitions, deletion of data, damage caused by viruses, reinstallation of the operating system, damage to databases
  • Faulty electronics
    – electric shocks, overheating
  • Defective hard drive heads
    – malfunction of the element for writing/reading data; it can be recognized by the loud rhythmic clicking that can be heard from the hard disk case
  • Motor failure
    – stuck bearing; it can be recognized by a faint buzzing sound
  • Faulty firmware
    – failure of internal software; it is difficult to recognize, the data cannot be accessed, the hard disk is mechanically correct
  • Plate damage (Bad sectors)
    – recognized by the slow operation of the computer, the impossibility of accessing some data and directories and by the automatic CHECK DISK.

Packaging and shipping of hard drives

For the successful recovery of data from hard drives, the most important thing is that the media arrives at our offices without additional damage caused by poor handling during transport. That’s why it’s important to properly package and ship sensitive media.

If you have a retail version of the media in the original packaging, it is best to send the media that way. If you did not receive your media in retail packaging, below are some recommendations and guidelines so that your media arrives at our premises safely.

  • All media must be packed inside an antistatic bag (ESD bag).
  • Plastic packaging for hard drives can replace an antistatic bag. Such packaging needs to be additionally secured in a cardboard box with Styrofoam.
  • The outer packaging of the package should be made of hard cardboard. HelpDisc box
  • The entire interior space must be filled with styrofoam or sponge, with a cutout for media placement. You can also use bubble wrap or bubble wrap.
  • The media must not have a space in which it could move freely inside the box. It must be covered with protective material on all six sides.
  • It is not necessary to send any cables or accessories, except in the case of external devices (external case, NAS, etc…). Then send the accessories separately from the media in the same package.
  • The box is secured with wide adhesive tape.
